Evaluation of the grammar presentations

Dear FLE 324 Section 01 members,
You need to choose 2 grammar group presentations and comment on the successful aspects of these presentations of your peers that you have observed as well as the aspects that they need to improve in their presentations.
Also evaluate the presentations in terms of the following aspects: the aim of the lesson, the level of active student participation in the lesson, the clarity of the stages, the use of audio/visual aids, the interest level of students, the pacing of the material, the variety of pair/group/individual activities, the clarity of instructions, and the presenters' use of English, the presenters' oral performance in English and their presentation skills.
You need to specify the strong and weak points of the presentation as well.

  1. Firstly, I would like to comment on Nurten, Aycan, Özge and Ayaz’s presentation. It is clear that they made a great effort and well prepared to the presentation. They could have not used and visuals as they couldn’t find any visual materials for the subject; however, they preferred to prepare a video themselves; I think it is a good idea, and it appealed students. In fact, it is very difficult to teach students grammar without bombarding rules. They made a good introduction and smooth transition between the stages and all stages were clear. The lesson included both an individual activity and a group activity; namely, there was a variety in activities. The topic and the activities were appropriate for the students’ proficiency level. And also, that there were colorful pictures on the activity handouts was good to take students attention and to involve them in the activity. They used the board to monitor the answers; it was good for students to check their answers. Both Nurten and Aycan were cheerful and I think it is important for students’ attitudes towards the lesson. As a general, it was a nice presentation. I congratulate Nurten, Aycan, Özge and Ayaz.

  2. The second presentation I want to comment is Melek, Harika, Deniz and Halenur’s one. The warm up part was very nice and appealing. The song was appropriate for the students’ level, so students participated in the lesson from the beginning. To get students’ attention to the lesson is very important and this song helped to do that. It also included the subject (present continuous tense), and Melek use of example sentences and related pictures from the song was very good as this provided a smooth transition between the activities and stages. However, instead of just showing the sentences from the PowerPoint slides and reading, she could have written the sentences on the board. On the other hand, she used peer correction; it could be both bad and good for the students; the students gave wrong answer could feel herself/himself bad when their peers corrected her/him. Nevertheless, Melek was good at controlling students, for instance, she usually asked ‘any questions so far’, ‘are there any problems’ or ‘if there is anything you don’t understand, you can ask me’. And also she gave clear instructions. Maybe, there could be a group or pair work beside the individual work. This does not mean that activities were not good, but to build an interaction between students it could be better to add any group or pair work activities. Namely, it was a good presentation except for few points which need some improvements.

  3. The first presentation that I’m going to comment on is Fatma and Derya’s presentation. One of the points I liked is teacher’s attitude towards students. Derya was the presenter and she was so friendly and cheerful. In addition to that, she monitored the students during the activities and she was constructive while correcting the errors. I would like to mention one point that might be improved. During the activities, while students were giving answers to the questions, they did this one by one. This could have been done randomly, as in the other case the students would count their turn and deal only with the question they were going to answer. Other than these things, the aim of the lesson was clear and the teacher was interested in the lesson. She wrote clearly on the board and the visuals were really appealing, I think. There were enough activities to make students clearly understand the topic and these activities were carried out in pair or group works. I enjoyed the lesson, everything was clear to me. It was a nice experience:)

  4. The second presentation that I’m going to comment on is Nesrin, Mürüvvet and İmren’s group presentation. The topic was superlatives, but I got confused at first because the aim of the lesson was somehow unclear to me. Therefore, it would be better if they had been more specific about it; that part needs a little bit improvement. Other than that, the presentation was good. Especially the star activity was really nice and attracted students’ attention. The visuals were used appropriately. At the beginning of the lesson, Nesrin showed a video to us and it was very nice. However, when we think it for the elementary level students, they may have difficulty in following the video. So, it is better to use more simple language. There was a variety of activities and the presenters Nesrin and Mürüvvet were really interested in the lesson. They used the board to clarify the points that they were teaching. They gave clear instructions for the activities. They were also cheerful and friendly towards the students. Except for a few points, it was a good presentation I think:)

  5. First of all, I want to comment on Şakir, Samet and İbrahim’s grammar presentation. The aim of the lesson was to teach type two conditionals and it was very clear when we looked at the lesson. Şakir started the lesson with a revision part, which was quite beneficial for the students to remind them the related previous subject. The use of board in this part was also effective for the students to see the forms on the board. The song they used was very appropriate for teaching the grammar point because the type two forms were always repeated in the song. Another good point was that the song was repeated for many times and each time the students did a variety of different activities. The use of different pictures with the song was very interesting. Those pictures were related to the song and if the students had not knew the meaning of the words from it, they could have been looked these pictures. Also the teacher, Şakir, put interesting pictures from his own life to the slides. This was a brilliant idea to attract the students to the lesson because the students always wonder about the personal lives of teachers. In the practice part the students made fill in the gaps activity, which was quite logical one, because they should start from the easy things. What I most like was the production part, because it was like a game and different combinations of type two sentences, which was quite interesting and funny, came up from students and all the students participated actively to the task. A negative point about the lesson was the teacher’s use of board. The handwriting and organization of the board could be better to appeal all the students, but it did not have a crucial importance when we look this nice presentation over all. :)

  6. The second presentation that I would like to comment on is Özge, Nurten, Aycan and Ayaz’s presentation. They explained future continuous tense to the students. Starting with an interesting video was the most appealing part of the lesson, because they prepared the video themselves. In the video, the students saw the different use of future continuous tense. The introduction part was very good. After the students watched the video, Aycan gave the usage of the tense by writing clearly to the board. It was a good idea to give the rules to the students by using the board so that they could easily see the rules on board write them to their notebooks. Apart from giving the rules only, Aycan also formed sample sentences for the students to make the subject concrete in their mind. While writing examples, she tried students to participate in this activity by asking for examples from them. Not only saw the students the usage and rules of the tense, but also they tried to produce their own sentences in this stage. The order of the activities and the transition between them were perfect. Aycan first presented the subject, then Nurten made the students practice what they have learned in the first stage. The practice activities were very effective, students could easily grasp the subject by doing those activities. The production part was also very beneficial in terms of using the learnt structure. Nurten gave the students a lot of different situations and in groups student tried to use the future continuous tense by making suitable for the situations. In this step, by working in groups the students also use their imagination. All in all, it was an effective and creative lesson. :)

  7. Firstly, I would like to comment on micro-teaching of Melek. She started with the song “Lemon Tree” which was an enjoyable one. This helped her to draw students attention to the lesson at the beginning. Stages that she applied were clear enough. Her use of visuals, tables and pictures were also very successful. Another point in which she was successful was the classroom management. She was confident of herself and she made an effective presentation. She was really interested in students. She used a song, a PowerPoint presentation and a handout which shows that her lesson included a variety of activities. This variety helped her in the class to have students involve into the activities and she made nice transitions between the activities. There was no important problem that I could see in her presentation but the game( tabu game) was a little bit difficult. All in all, her presentation was successful enough to be applied in a real classroom.

  8. Secondly, I would like to comment on presentation of Helin and Hande. They used a reading passage about King Kong, a handout and PowerPoint multiple choice quiz practice. They did a variety of activities. The aim of the lesson was clear and transitions between the activities were smooth enough. They gave clear instructions about the activities. Both Helin and Hande used English as the models of students. Their pronunciation was also well. Helin was more successful than Hande in terms of classroom management, but both of them were quite good teachers when we look at their attitudes towards students. As for students, they seemed to be interested in the activities. All parts of the presentation was successful; however, they could use sentences from the text while giving examples so that the text and aim of the lesson could be more connected. Although there were some little problems, I think their presentation could be one of the successful ones with some improvements.

  9. Firstly, I want to comment on Özge, Nurten, Aycan and Ayaz’s group presentation. Aycan started her lesson with giving clear instructions about student level. Then she started lesson in an energetic way, she seemed happy to be in class. In the lead-in part, she used sentences with future continuous tense, which made students familiar with the topic. Then she showed a video about a TV program, but before that she give made some explanations about the program, which is good. As to video, it was well- prepared and instructive. There were many examples –questions & answers- about the topic they taught to students. Besides, beginning the lesson with such an enjoyable video is a good idea to attract students’ attention to the lesson and topic. After the video, she asked students “did you notice any structure?” which made students infer the grammar structure by themselves. Thus, the aim of the lesson was clear. Then she started to explain the topic in a detailed way. I think writing the formula of positive-negative-question sentences, and one example related to them was very effective. Then she passed to the meaning part and also wrote them on the board. While writing, she wanted students to make guesses and give examples. This was a good way for the interaction. She used the board effectively and wrote clearly. She asked if everything was clear and if there was any question, and this was a good way to eliminate understanding problems. Nurten also used board effectively and her handwriting was clear. After students give answers, she appreciated them by saying thank you, very good etc. This made students more enthusiastic about giving answers. She gave clear instructions about the activities, and she guided them while they doing group activity. Overall, the teachers seemed interested in lesson, and the stages of the lesson were clear. They made a variety of activities and materials were appropriately paced. They spoke naturally, and they had a clear pronunciation. Students also seemed interested in lesson and participate actively. Especially group work was an enjoyable one for the students. All in all, it was both funny and informative lesson.

  10. Secondly, I want to comment on Cuma and Betül's presentation. Betül started the lesson with a song, which is a good way to start a lesson. This made students feel relax and ready for the lesson. She gave students a task, which made students pay attention to the song and also help them to develop their listening skills. However, as I remember, some of the missing vocabulary items were hard to understand. Because of that, she had to made students listen the song once more. After giving right answers, she wanted students to pay attention to “who-whose-that” part by asking questions. This made students ready for the topic. After that, she started to explain the topic. However, there were too many grammatical structures to teach like who, which, whom, where, whose and that. Because of that, she had to explain each structure by giving just two examples. I think this can be difficult for the students to understand all these structures in such a short time. Her use of board was a bit complex. While teaching, she asked questions and want students to give examples about the topic to interact with them. The aim and the stages of the lesson were clear. The materials were appropriately paced, but there were no peer or group activity, and she didn’t use visual material. The teacher was calm and very natural. She was smiling during the lesson and didn’t get nervous when students made a mistake. Her classroom management skills were good. When students were doing activity, she guided them. When answering the questions, she asked why that option was true to make students understand the rule better. She always asked if everything was clear and if there was any question. She spoke naturally and seemed interested in the lesson. Students also actively participate in the lesson and ask questions. Overall, it was a hard but nice lesson.

  11. Firstly, I want to mention the presentation of Aycan and Nurten. The beginning was really good. Instead of finding some ready visuals like pictures, they recorded a video of themselves. This also got the attention of the audience very easily. They reflected the future tense concept in the video very clearly. They used the board while giving the structure of future tense and this provided the audience to get the main structure of the future tense. There were both an individual activity and a group activity. In the group activity, they wanted the audience to use their imagination and knowledge. To sum up, their way of teaching and the lesson plan was really good.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Secondly, I want to mention Nesrin and Mürüvvet's presentation. The video at the beginning was really impressive. However, we couldn't get the idea of the activity at the beginning. Therefore, we couldn't understand the grammar topic of the presentation. However, the star activity part was really good. It is an effective way of teaching superlatives to students. We drew the stars without knowing nothing. If the real students had known the part after drawing the stars, they would have tried to make toe biggest or smallest star to show to the class. Therefore, not knowing what is going to come is good. In conclusion, the presentatiion was good, the presentators were really successful but the giving the main point of the topic of the day could be better.

  15. The first presentation that I want to comment on is the Deniz, Melek, Halenur and Harika’s presentation. The lesson began with a funny and interesting song. This makes the start of the lesson very interesting and the teacher was successful at getting the attention of the students. The subject was present continuous tense and the song was appropriate for the language focus. The pictures about the lyrics of the song were also effective for teacher to get the attention of students to the target language focus. There was a smooth transition between warm-up and activities. The activities were also successful. The teacher chose ındividual work for the activities but a group and pair activity could be effective in creating a harmonious atmosphere in the class. The teacher, Melek, was also presented the lesson very successfully. The communication of the teacher with students was effective and made the students more comfortable in the activities and during the instruction. The aim of the lesson is make students familiar with the present continuous tense and it is very clear. The participation of the students is sufficient for the continuation of the lesson. The stages were clear and the transitions between them are organized well. The use of visual and audio made the lesson more interesting for the students. The aids were used effectively. The teacher’s use of English was also successful, clear and understandable. The aids used in the lesson were the strongest part of the lesson and the presentation skill of the teacher was also successful. The variety of the activities could be improved. The teacher should have used pair and group activities. The board should have been used

  16. The second presentation that I want to comment on is Ayca, Özge, Nurten and Ayaz’s presentation. The lesson began with an interesting video that prepared by the group members. This showed that they were well prepared for the presentation. The video was about the use of future continuous tense and gave examples of the tense. It was an interesting and effective beginning of the lesson. Students probably found the video very interesting so the teacher was successful in getting the attention of the class. After the students watched the video, the teacher wrote the target form on the board. It was an effective technique to teach grammar for the students. First students could see the form in real life situations and be familiar with the use of the future continuous tense and then they learned the form of the tense with the instructions given by the teacher by using the board and clear formulas made the lesson clear. The teacher also gave simple examples of the sentences in which the target form was used clearly. The aim of the lesson was also clear. The stages were organized successfully and there was a smooth transition between the stages. We can understand that the lesson plan was prepared well and the presentation and implementation of the plan was successful in the class. The teacher asked students to create their own sentences. This part was also effective because the students started to produce sentences with the target form. Using the new information is a good way to acquire and learn the language features. The activities that prepared by the teacher were also effective. I think the students could easily understand the subject we can understand this from the production part clearly. The use of visuals and audio was successful. Students participated to the lesson. The stages were clear. The variety of the activities was organized perfectly. The teacher had a friendly attitude towards the students.

  17. Firstly I would like to comment on the presentation of Aycan, Özge, Nurten and Ayaz's. They began their presentation with a video that they prepared. The video was perfect and I think all of the students love it. I think the video was creative and preparing a video by themselves needs great effort, so I appreciate the group for their hard work. Aycan gave the information about the video before watching it. After watching the video, Aycan asked the students if they noticed any structure while watching the video and so the aim of the lesson was clear. Aycan used the board and gave the form to the students by writing it on the board. It was also a good thing because grammar is a hard topic and it is hard to learn with abstract expressions. Thus writing on the board makes rules more concrete. She expressed the form while writing it on the board. She spoke with the students continuously. She gave examples after each form and wrote them under the forms. This is also good because students see the structure and its examples, and it becomes easier for students to understand the rule. After giving the structure, Aycan wrote the future continuous tense's meanings and usage. However, they were a bit confusing because there were sentence parts like "parallel longer actions", "a longer action which is interrupted etc. I think, these expressions was confusing. They could be easier or simpler. After that she checked if there were any student that didn't understand anything by asking them. After Aycan, Nurten continued to the lesson. She distributed the activity sheets. She wrote the true answers on the board. It was good because students saw the true answers and they could correct themselves. However, in the second part of the sheets, Nurten wrote the whole sentences which wasn't necessary. She could write the only the right answer. She distributed colorful pictures and wanted students to write a paragraph about the pictures using future continuous tense. Thus, students could use the tense on their own. There were both group activity and individual work, so we can say that there was variety of activities. Presenters' pronunciation was good and clear. They gave explanations before each activity. They used the board perfectly. They divided it into two parts. They spoke with the students continuously. Students participated willingly.

  18. Secondly, I would like to comment on the peresentation of Şakir, İbrahim and Samet's. Şakir was the teacher. He began his lesson with revision part. He explained that they learned the first and zero type conditionals. He asked students if they remembered the forms and then wrote them on the board. He also wrote some examples on the board, so students saw and remember the conditionals before learning type 2 conditional. After that, he showed a slat presentation. He prepared the presentation himself and it was great. It was clear that he spent effort to form the slayt and to find the song. The song was full of second type conditionals which was good. Because students were exposed to the structure without realizing it. The song's lyrics and the pictures were well matched, so it was enjoyable and interesting, and students loved it a lot. After the first listening, he distributed fill in the blanks activity sheet, and students listened to the song again. He wrote the answers on the board. It was good because students saw the right answers and coreected themselves without wrong imput. Then he wrote the type two structure on the board. He explained the structure and gave examples about it. It was also good. As I said before, grammar is a hard topic to learn. Students can not understand the grammar rules in an abstract way. Using the board and writing the structure on the board makes these rules concrete. Thus, it becomes easier to learn gramar rules. At the end, he gave each student a piece of paper. He asked students to wrşte only the "if" part of the sentences and then he collected thhese parts. After that, he called some students to the board, asked them to choose a paper and then asled them to complete the other part of the sentence. This activity was also enjoyable. It made students laughed. The activity helped students to develop their creativity, and they also learn how to use second type conditional tense. These activities were individual activities. There could be some group or pair work. The use of the board also could be developed. He used the board a bit complicated. He could divide the board into two. The answers would be more understandable and they wouldn't be complicated. I think the lesson was enjoyavle, students parcipated willingly and they had fun.

  19. Firstly, I want to mention Betül’s group. Their topic was “Relative Clauses”. Betül was the teacher. She started the lesson with an enjoyable song. Before she made students listen to the song, she distributed some sheets and wanted them to fill in the blanks while listening to it. It was good to give students a task while doing an activity. The song was also a good choice to take the students’ attention and make them ready for the lesson. The missing vocabulary items were a bit difficult to be understood but she allowed students to listen to the song one more time, so that they could understand better. Before starting to mention the topic of the lesson, she made students to understand it by themselves by taking their attention to some missing parts in the song such as “whose, which”. It was useful for students to feel themselves ready to learn the subject in detail. She used board to explain the structure of the topic and gave some examples. Her hand writing was legible, but she could write in a neat way. She used the board inefficiently. However, she tried to explain each relative clause by giving examples and asked students if they understood or not. I think she could choose three of the clauses and just focus on them. She tried to teach all of them, and this caused some troubles for students. The aim of the lesson was clear and the stages were appropriate. However, she didn’t use visual materials and she didn’t do pair or group activities. She interacted with students in an appropriate way by asking questions to them and answering their questions. Her classroom management abilities were good. She seemed to be relaxed and she was like a real teacher. All in all, it was useful lesson but a bit overloaded.

  20. Secondly, I want to mention Aycan's group. Their topic was “Future Continuous Tense”. I liked their lesson the most among the other micro-teachings. The aim of the lesson and the stages were clear. Teacher encouraged the students to participate in the lesson actively. Teacher used several visual activities to take the attention of the students. Students seemed to be really interested in the lesson. At the beginning of the lesson, teacher showed a video that the group shot themselves. It was very enjoyable. Teacher managed to attract students to the lesson. Each student watched the video carefully. Apart from that, teacher used the board efficiently. She wrote the formulas of the subject. Her hand writing was also legible and neat. Teacher provided smooth transitions between the activities. Her classroom management technique was also effective. She was neither too harsh nor too gentle. She gave clear instructions for students. She was also a helpful teacher. In addition to writing the rules of the structure, it was beneficial to write down some examples related to the topic. All in all, it was a well-prepared and useful lesson.

  21. Hello everyone,
My present comment will be related to the micro- teaching session prepared and conducted by Aycan, Nurten, Özge and Ayaz. Aycan was the first presenter. She began her lesson by explaining the student profile and then she showed a video that was prepared by them. However; it was not just a ‘random video’ because it was very well designed in terms of explaining the target grammatical rule which was ‘future continuous tense’. In addition, this video was very effective because it worked as a bridge to link the lesson to the target subject. To do it with such an enjoyable and a smart video only made the lesson more effective and successful! Another anecdote is that showing something which is related to the teacher’s personal life always takes students attention and interest. Likely, we were captured by that video and enjoyed a lot. After showing the video, Aycan asked the classroom whether they had noticed any structure that was used frequently on the video or not. This was very effective way of inductive grammar teaching. She asked the students instead of giving the subject and the rule directly. Later, she wrote some sentences and examples about future cont. tense on the board. I think, it was necessary because students needed to see the forms and examples in order to digest such an abstract issue like grammar. Her board use was also nice and clear.
After Aycan made sure that everything was clear about future cont. tense, Nurten continued teaching. She was as friendly and pleasant as Aycan. Plus, she was smiling all the time, which was very positive. (actually she smiles every time in real life as well) She distributed activity sheets to the students and guided them by explaining students’ task clearly. Then, she went over the questions one by one and wrote the correct answers on the board. To me, it was very good. In this way, every student was able to see the correct answers. However; she wrote the whole sentences. Instead, she could have written only the correct answer part. After Q&A period, she asked students to form groups and distributed some pictures to the groups. The task was to write a paragraph by relating it to the pictures. It was also enjoyable and students were able to work in groups, which meant there were a variety of the activities.
Last but not the least, both teachers seemed confident, relax and enthusiastic while teaching. They were also well-prepared for the lesson and the activities were very much related to the subject. They taught future continuous tense both enjoyable and effectively and they managed to keep the students attention on the lesson very well. Congrats!

  22. Hello, I want to comment on Aycan's group presentation. Although it has passed a long time since we presented our grammar lessons but it is still nice to remember about this group's presentation. I think the video made it so enjoyable and unforgettable in terms of visuals and covering the topic. I liked their teaching for they were clear and inductive.
I think it was a lesson full of strong points so I want to congratulate them.

  23. The first presentation I want to mention belongs to Melek, Harika, Deniz and Halenur. I think that the presentation was quite well-prepared . Every step of the lesson was quite clear and there were smooth transitions between them. That’s why the students had no place to stop and think where they were and how they got there. First of all, I liked the lead-in part very much because Melek was going to give her lecture on Present Continuous Tense and she chose an appropriate song called “Lemon Tree”as a starter. In the song, there were so many examples of the target grammatical point. It was also an enjoyable and lovely video clip which could attract the students’ attention with the help of colourful visuals. This was the primary aim to make the students ready and motivated for the lecture part and it considerably served for this aim in my opinion. Then, she began to explain the target tense through a power point presentation in which required forms of the tense and sample sentences were shown. She did not use the board at that part; however, this was not an important issue in my opinion. However, it might be better if she wrote the sample sentences including the target structure on the board and elaborated more on them while writing. Melek also used some activities to reinforce the target structure and evaluate the students’ performance about it. She utilized peer correction in the course of giving feedback and this was a good technique I think. However, the proficiency level of the students may not be suitable for it, I am not sure about it. She always gave clear instructions and tried to help the students thorughout the lecturing and giving feedback parts. Therefore, she was quite an effective teacher who had her own teaching style, I think. The presentation was so well-designed and it supplied the students’ needs as much as possible. Therefore, it had no big drawbacks; but still they could integrate more various activities such as pair or group work which make the students more cooperative and interactive throughout the lesson.

  24. Secondly, I would like to comment on the grammar presentation which belongs to Helin and Hande. Helin was the first teacher who explained the target structures and Hande was the second teacher who made the students done activities and gave feedback to them about their performance. Their topic was adverbial clause patterns constructed by when/while; therefore, past continous and past tenses were indirectly touched upon throughout the lesson, especially in the activity part. Helin conveyed the meaning of the structure perfectly. She used the board effectively and her teaching style was great, I think. She always smiled and even while writing on the board, she continued her interaction with the students. Her writing was also legible and there was no problem with her explanations. Helin also distributed a reading passage including target forms and this was also a successful technique so as to teach them in a meaningful context rather than in isolation. The text was interesting and easy to read as well. After the lecturing part, primarily a multiple choice quiz activity was used through a power point presentation by Hande. She was an effective teacher who gave clear instructions and feedback for the students. Her activity was well-prepared with its visuals and dynamic style. That’s why all the students were eager to participate in this activity. The group activity was also quite enjoyable and well-designed because distributing pictures and making the students write a paragraph by using when/while and target tenses was a good idea. All in all, with its effective teachers, this presentation was quite successful and every step of the lesson and its aim were quite clear and well-thought, which eliminated hesitations and confusions on the side of the students.

  25. My second comment will be upon Şakir, İbrahim and Samet’s micro-teaching. Şakir was the presenter of the group. Their aim was to teach type-2 conditionals and it was very clear. Şakir started his lesson by revising and reminding the previous subjects that was discussed in the classroom. I think it was very good because students reminded the previous topic; therefore, they were able to link the past knowledge with the newly learnt one. He also used the board for giving the form and some examples, which was related to Type-2 Conditionals. After the revision part, he delivered a presentation with the help o Ppt. This presentation was also very effective in terms of attracting students’ attention and reinforcing the knowledge by using visual aids. At the same time, he made students listen to a song while they were looking at the slides that were coherent with the lyrics of the song. To me, it was perfectly suitable with the aim because the lyrics of the song included type-2 conditionals and it was also adding variety to the activities and taking auditory learners’ attention as well. Another successful aspect of this activity is that students were exposed to the song several times and each time. After presentation part, Şakir gave different tasks to the students each time while they were listening to the song. It was very well designed since it is very important to present a task for the listener in order to enhance the efficiency of the listening material. Firstly, he wanted students to fill in the blanks in the lyric of the song. After students finished, he wrote the correct answers on the board which enabled students to see the correct answers and check theirs. Later, he wrote two type-2 structures on the board and he gave explanations and some examples about them. Then, he distributed papers to the students and asked them to write an “if clause” such as “If I had…”. Later, he collected the papers and asked students to choose one paper and complete the other half of the sentence. This game was so enjoyable and it also reinforces the knowledge; however, in real life with crowded classrooms it might create some problems due to time constraints and students’ number. Another suggestion of mine is that there may be some pair or group work as well. The activities were done individually or with the whole class, however, others could be used too. Last thing was about the board usage, handwriting could be clearer, but it is our common problem. The more we get used to write on the board, the better will it be. All in all, the lesson was both enjoyable and full of learning. Congratulations!

  26. The first presentation I want to talk about is Hilal and Duygu’s grammar presentation which appeal me so much. Initially, Duygu started the lesson with a smiling and confident face and in the lead in part, she served an enjoyable song related to comparatives and she also presented the lyrics with a power point presentation. This technique was quite effective because the students could see the structures while they were internalizing them also by listening. With this song they managed to serve the topic successfully. Moreover, Duygu also showed some relevant pictures showing the differences between the concepts like “big” and “bigger “with comparative structure and this reinforced the students’ comprehension by means of pictures and relevant structures. While Duygu were giving the instructions, she also wrote the structure and usage on the board which was an effective way in terms of making the structure concrete and visual to the students and with the help of the written forms, the students could also take notes about the topic. After the instruction parts, Hilal took turn and she served the students with some exercises so as to reinforce the comprehension and then she moved on a game which was related to giving instructions like “if your hair is longer than the others’, touch your hair!” and this was a very enjoyable TPR exercise and Hilal was so pretty while she was presenting the game. Totally I really enjoyed the lesson they served and there were variety of activities served successfully. The students in the class were attentive to the lesson. There were smooth transitions between the activities and Duygu and Hilal managed to move from one activity to another quite well. All in all, they used all the materials appropriately and they created a very enjoyable teaching and learning environment.

  27. Secondly, I want to comment on Helin and Hande’s grammar presentation which is related to teaching “when/while”. First of all, Helin started the lesson and she distributed the students a reading passage in which there were when and while structure and she asked the repeated structures and served the topic of the day by using quite implicit way. Then, she moved on the lecture part. While she was giving the instructions, Helin was very professional and confident and she did a great job with her teacher-like voice tone and behaviours, namely, answering the questions of the students. Then, she distributed an exercise sheet so as to make the topic more comprehensive and reinforced. After that part, they moved on testing part smoothly and Hande took the turn at that time. She presented some test questions with the help of power point presentation. This was very effective in terms of reflecting the reinforcement part to the students and transitions between the slides and the answers of the questions. I like their way of presenting the topic with variety of the activities and the writings on the board were quite legible and successfully reflected. All in all, they used the materials quite successfully and reflected their topic professionally.

  28. Actually all the presentations were really successful and well prepared but I want to comment firstly on Melek’s presentation which was a bit enjoyable compared to others and starting to the lesson with a song showed her being creative teacher. Because she could attract the student by this way. And the level was appropriate for the students. The think that I appropriated with Melek was her confidence to herself. She had really good interaction with students and made students to focus on lesson.Using visuals and pictures were really successful and she chose a good examples and activities fort he students which also shows that she will be an effective teacher. For the activities Melek used a song and Power Point.Actually I could not find any point to be improved because she was really professional and will be a good teacher.

  29. Secondly I want to comment on Şakir, Samet and İbrahim’s presentation.Their topic were type two conditional and the presenter were Şakir. He had really a good pronounciation and effective teachning style. Because he was energetic and made stundents participate actively. Starting with revision part he made stundents to remind the previous subject. And to make the subject clear he used the board effectively.I liked the way using pictures because they were presented with song and it is effective way to attract stundents. Also, when there were unknown words in the song they were able easily to guess the meaning from the pictures. Knowing the subject well is not so important. If you don’t have the teachning ability you cant be effective to the stundents. And I think Şakir has this ability and he know how to make students to focus on lesson. I also liked the way he used the activities becasuse he began from the easy one to attract the students. What I liked most was his being energetic and using different ways to attract students.Actually, I don’t know which part to be impoved because I could not find any negative problem to be improved but may be he should be a bit slow. Şakir has a fluent speaking and speak a bit fast. Stundents mat miss some points.Apart from this everything was excelent and I congrualate Şakir for his performance

  30. I want to comment on the grammar presentation of Duygu, Hilal, Ayşenur and Ceren. The presenters of the group were Duygu and Hilal. They both had a smiling face and their style was quite friendly. The lesson started with Duydu’s part. She made us listen a song. The softest song i have ever heard so i loved it very much. The lyrics were also visible for better understanding. Thus, we had the chance to see the grammatical structures, also. In the song there were many examples of comparative structure repetitively so it provided a familiarity with this rule. After that, we had a power point presentation about these comparatives with the visuals to make it more concrete. Grammar teaching part was also quite effective she used the board in order to provide permanency. In the next step, Hilal ask the students to study on the activities about the topic of the day. The activities were effective and enough to reinforce learning. The last part was a game. I liked this part, also. It was quite enjoyable and successful. It was also useful in order to see whether the students understood the topic or not. Hilal was also successful to carry out this part. The students were willing to participate in the lesson. The activities were not boring so they were ensured the attention of the students. The song and the game were great and wisely involved in the lesson. The transitions were smooth so we never felt distracted. All in all I liked the presentation very much and still I listen the song. Thank you =)

  31. The other grammar presentation I want to comment on is Melek, Deniz, Harika and Halenur’s presentation. The warm up part of this presentation was also very good. They presented a song video which is quite enjoyable and lovely. In the song, there were many examples of the continuous tense and this was exactly the topic of the day. The song was attractive for the students and appropriate for their level so they were willing to participate in the lesson. In the next step, Melek used a power point presentation in order to make the topic and the grammatical structures more concrete for the students. She also distributed activities which are variable and clear enough. The use of visuals was good and her friendly manner helped her very much. She also made use of peer correction and this was an effective strategy to be aware of the mistakes and provide a better learning. She also had a good classroom management strategy and asked students periodically if they had any problem with the lesson. The lesson was quite enjoyable and effective for learning. However, for young learners it would be better if they would include some pair and group work activities because they love to work together and this technique can provide a competitive environment which is an important issue for learning. All in all it was a very good lesson and I enjoyed to be involved in. =)

  32. The first presentation I would like to comment on is Şakir, Samet and İbrahim's presentation. Since Şakir started with a brief revision of the topic, the aim of the lesson was clear even from the beginning. The song they used, on the other hand, was quite appropriate for their aim, because it included several examples of conditionals. Each time they played the song, they provided a different task for students, which made the listening meaningful. Also, they prepared a variety of activities for the practice part and this provided the students with detailed rules and examples. In short, their presentation was well prepared with its clear steps and enjoying activities.

  33. The other presentation that attreacted my attention was the one presented by PInar and Duygu. Similar to Şakir's presentation, they started with a song, which made the learning both enjoyable and easy for the students.
By telling the class the story behind the song, Duygu managed to divert the students' attention to the song, so that they listened more eagerly, which helped them notice the examples related to if conditionals.
The activity on the production part, on the other hand, was really creative, because they chose several popular people in Turkish media, who the students were familiar with. So, all the students were willing to form sentences about those people, which proved the efficiency of the activity.
Apart from the activities, the presentation was also successful in the instructions given by the presenters, since they both used clear english and instructed the activities step by step. This also made the stages of the lesson quite clear, which was another good point to mention. To sum up, their presentation attracted me thanks to the creative tasks and the presenters' involvement in the lesson.

  34. I would like to comment on Duygu's and Hilal's presentation firstly. The lesson started very well and the lead-in part was successful. Using a song is a good idea and it motivates the students. In terms of teaching grammar, though the beginning was good but I would prefer if the teacher asked the students to pay attention to the colored parts of the song rather than just writing down the rules on the blackboard directly. In addition, the teacher showed the difference between adding -er and using more in comparatives by syllable number. I would suggest that the teacher says "What is the difference between the adjectives that take -er and the ones that are preceded by 'more'?" since asking questions always draws students attention. The presenters were good in terms of classroom management, they kept smiling and giving positive energy to the students. The examples which used were quiet clear and well integrated and prepared for the lesson and topic. Finally, I would like to thank the group for this cheerful lesson.

  35. Firstly I want to comment on Şakir, İbrahim and Samet’s group presentation. The aim of the lesson was teaching “Type 2”. The warm up part was good. They did it with a song. It was attractive for srudents. In the production part of the lesson, there was a game. It was a useful activity because it gave students a chance to speak. I think the aim of the lesson was clear, students participated actively in the lesson. Students and teachers did a variety of activities. The stages of the lesson were clear. Students and teacher had clear pronunciation. Students and teachers used the visuals appropriately. They spoke naturally. The lesson required real use of language. Students and the teacher were interested in the lesson? The materials were appropriately paced and pai/group/individual activities were appropriately employed. Students and the teacher used accurate English. However, the teacher didn’t write clearly on the board. Also there is a little problem with the activity sheet. The teacher told just Type 2, but there were some sentences about “if only”. The teacher talked about it later. Also there were some misunderstandings about “I was/ I were” among the students. The teacher should have told these topics at the beginning of the lesson. Therefore, the practice part should be improved.
Secondly I want to comment on Helin, Hande and Sümeyye’s group presentation. The aim of the lesson was teaching “when and while”. It was a good idea to teach when and while in a context so the teacher distributed a reading passage to the students. In the production part, there was a group activity and it was an effective activity for interaction. The aim and the stages of the lesson were clear. The students and the teacher wrote clearly on the board. They did a variety of activities. They had clear pronunciation and they use accurate English. They spoke naturally. The teacher used visuals appropriately and the students and the teacher were interested in the lesson. The lesson required real use of language. The materials were appropriately paced and the pair/group/individiual activities were appropriately paced. However, the first activity which was a fill in the blanks activity should be improved.

  36. The second presentation I would like to comment on belongs to Şakir, Samet and İbrahim. I really had fun! The presentation was great and so creative. I believe that the group spent many hours in preparing the slides according to the lyrics. Firstly, their choices of pictures was too successful, and not only in terms of grammar but also it teaches vocabulary subconsciously. The activities were appropriate for the students level and well organized. The instructions were clear and the teacher was confident. He kept monitoring the student during the activities and motivated the students to participate in the lesson. Additionally, the teacher used the blackboard effectively. The last activity was really fun and it encouraged students to interact with each other and activate their speaking skills. But one note about this activity is that the teacher should ask the student to write nice and logical things, some people may tend to write mean words. Thanks for the group for their effort.

  37. I want to evaluate Betül and Cuma’s grammar presentation. it was about relative clauses and Betül was the teacher. her way of teaching was good but she was a little bit fast. she used the board very effectively and students could see the differences among the relative clauses. they distributed a rubric for the usage of grammar point. and then they distributed multiple-choice questions. It was a perfect lesson for preparing students for university entrance exam for students of foreign language department. However, it was not very good other students. the lesson was strengthened with a song which was related to the topic of the lesson. I think using songs is an effective way of teaching a grammar point because you both use a text and a listening activity. I like that part of the lesson a lot.

  38. Firstly, I would like to comment on Şakir, İbrahim and Samet's presentation which was similar to ours in terms of topic and activities. Their topic was also Second Conditionals and they made use of a song by Madonna at the beginning of the lesson to warm up. Unlike us, they made use of powerpoints. It was a very creative lesson and their strategy was to teach the topic first inductively and then stating the rules deductively. their lesson was appropriate for the students level, and the stages of the lesson were clear.

the second presentation I would like to comment on is Melek, Deniz, Harika and Halenur’s presentation. Their topic was Present Continuous Tense and they planned to teach young learners as far as I remember. At the beginning of the lesson they used a very popular song called “Lemon Tree” to warm up. The song was enjoyable and attractive for the students. They used a Powerpoint slide to make the rules clear and concrete for the students. This was also a successful aspect of the micro-teaching they did. But there were some points to be developed. For example, she could have first explained the exceptional verbs that change when added “-ing” suffix. But all in all it was a very enjoyable and successful presentation.

  39. I would like to comment on Şakir, İbrahim and Samet's presentation. It was about if clause(second conditional). They use powerpoint and I think it was made succesfully and it was very creative. They tried to make students familiar with the topic. After they made students familiar with the topic, they give a detailed explanation of the topic. It was an effective strategy. Everthing was proper for the level. The activities were quite good and well-designed. The game was also good. The activities encourage students to speak. I would love that. In summary, warm-up, presentation, activities and teacher's performance were quite good and appropriate for students level. They were well prepared.

  40. I would like to comment on Aycan, Nurten, Özge and Ayaz's presentation. I comment on this presentation because it was the most entertaining and easily remembered micro-teaching. Especially the video part was unforgottable, deathless. Their topic was 'future continuous tense'. They made a video about that topic and it took students' attention. Students were familiar with the topic subconsciously. After the video, they gave a detailed explanation about the topic. She gave some examples about future continuous tense and then Nurten distributed hand-outs. She gave the instructions and she asked the students for doing the activity. Questions were appropriate for students' level. After the first activity, she formed the class in groups. She asked them to write a paragraph about the pictures that she distributed. It was also a good activity. In summary, they used the board well, they were confident, calm and they had the situation in hand.

  41. The first presentation I would like to comment on is Duygu, Hilal, Ayşenur and Ceren. The presenters were Duygu and Hilal. Firstly presenters were confident caring and smiling all the time that was a strong part of that presentation. They used a song at the beginning of the lesson that song was meant to attract students attention and it really did it's job. Also giving the lyrics of the song was a good ideo in terms of students' understanding of the lesson. They used the song very well because there were many examples of the target structure and this provided input for the students.
As for grammer they used board to make the structure more clear that was also a good point. The students were willing to participate because the activities were not boring. The song and the game were great and wisely involved in the lesson.
Overall that was a good lesson the transitions and the manner of the presenters were very good. Congratulations!

  42. Secondly I would like to comment on Nurten, Aycan, Özge and Ayaz’s presentation. I think the presentation were very well prepared. They did not used any visuals maybe this can be seen a weak part but they prepared a video themselves that showed us that they made great efforts for that presentation. I think the appealed to students very well. Also the transitons between the stages were very smooth and appropriate. Furthermore in their lesson plan they used both grop work and individual work. That was another strong point of their presentation. The topic and the langugage used in class during the presentation were appropriate for the level of the students. Also the presenters Nurten and Aycan did their job very well they were cheerfulş smiling and caring and they were monitoring students all the time. These points made their presentation much more effective.

  43. My first presentation comment will be on the micro-teaching prepared by Özge,Aycan,Nurten and Ayaz. The aim of the lesson was clear and their topic was to present 'future continous tense'. Aycan started the lesson with a video prepared by themselves. I think, it was the strongest part of the presentation because somehow it indirectly made the students get familiar with the topic. Although the target skill was grammar, the presenters did not give the direct rules and structures which made their teaching style effective. The students actively participated in the lesson and it was clear that the presenters also enjoyed the lesson. The activity part was also complementary to the topic. There were both group and pair work so there were a variety of activities during the lesson. Nurten distributed the activity sheets and she explained the students their tasks clearly. She then wrote the answers on the board legibly. So there were no problem with the use of board. Apart from that, I find the group activity very constructive. The students' writing a paragraph about the pictures they were given is a very effective idea because we want them to produce real language. The transition between the stages were clear and smooth also. Overall, I think it was a successful presentation. Congrats

  44. I would like to comment on Aycen's and Nurten's micro teaching. It was a really successful one because they recorded a video themselves. the students like seeing and watching things which includes their teacher. Other than the material the teacher was alyways smiling and eagre to teach. This was a strong and important point according to me. The actvivites were also appropriate for the level of the students and the transitions were really smooth. The classroom environment was really relaxing so there was not any hinderance to learn and teach. They used the board to convey the structure clearly. It was also good, because learners like taking notes from the board.
All in all it was a successful lesson plan and amicro teaching.

  45. I would like to comment on Duygu's and Hilal's presentation. At the beginning of the lesson they used a song. It was a really good start. They managed to draw attention of the students. By giving the lyrics of the song wit some missing part, they encourage the students to listen to the song. Otherwise the students shouold be discrouged when they could not follow the song without the lyrics at hand. as for their teaching abilities, they seemed realyy confident throughtout the lesson. They were always smiling and eager to teach. That's why the students would not hesitate to ask any questions about the topic.
All in all everthing was perfect in this lesson plan and micro teaching.

  46. The first presentation that I would like to comment is Melek's group. They started the lesson with a song called "Lemon Tree". When we consider the students age level the song is really appropriate and attractive. In those ages students are really interested in the songs and those kind of things. So, is an easy way to get their attention. She used clear and sample examples while teaching. She was really good at controlling the class. I think if she would use some peer work or group work it could be more interesting for those age level.
In conclusion, Melek was really good at teaching and their presentation was really good.

  47. My second comment will be on Melek, Halenur,Deniz and Harika's grammar micro-teaching. Melek was the presenter and she started the lesson with a song 'Lemon Tree' with quite enjoyable and attractive video including the usages of the target grammar structure which was 'present continous tense'. Melek did quite an effective start with the lesson and the video attracted the students interest a lot, so they participated willingly in the lesson. Later, Melek eleborated more on the structure with a power point presentation including sample sentences. However, I think, she could make use of the board also, but it didn't create a big problem. Every stage of the lesson was well organized and clear. The transitions between the stages were smooth also. There were various activities to practice more on the target structure. However, I didn't see any group work or pair activity. They could integrate such an activity in the lesson according to the level of the students. As the feedback type, Melek didn't directly corrected her students although they were young learners. She preferred peer feedback instead which was another strong point of the presentation.Overall, the lesson was quite successful in terms of lecturing and Melek was very caring, smiling and responsive to the students' needs and questions. Co9ngrats..

  48. I want to comment on Aycan and her group’s presentation. Their lesson was very enjoyable. They showed a video at the beginning of the lesson and it was made by them. In the video Aycan was the speaker and she asked questions about people’s future plans. In the video they used future tense while speaking and thus the aim of the lesson was clear. I think all of the students liked the video. It took their attraction. Also, making one’s own video needs a great effort, so I appreciate Aycan and her group. After students watch the video, Aycan asked them if they noticed any structure in the video. Thus students listened carefully to the video. After that, Aycan gives the rules and write them on the board. I think writing the rules on the board was a good thing because grammar is an abstract concept, so students may not be understand the rules easily. However, by writing them on the board, Aycan took the attention of the students and students understand the rules more easily. However, writing the usage of the future tense is not necessary because it may make students confused about the tense. She could show the usage only by examples. Nurten went on the lesson after Aycan. She did the exercises. She wrote the correct answers on the board which is a good thing because students can see their errors on the board and they can correct them. There were both group activity and individual work, so we can say that there was variety of activities. Presenters' pronunciation was good and clear.

  49. Secondly I want to comment on Duygu and Hilal’s presentation. At the beginning of the lesson they made students listen to a music which includes comparative structures. Thus the aim of the lesson was clear. They showed the lyrics of the song with a ppt presentation and highlighted the comparative parts of the song. Thus, they took the attention of the students to the song. After listening to the song, Duygu wrote the structure on the board which was good because students can see the rules and understand them easily. Also she wrote some examples under each structure; thus, it made rules more understandable. However; there was a problem. She didn’t interact with the students very much while writing the rules and examples on the board. She could ask students to give some examples after writing the rule. Thus, students would participate to the lesson more. After Duygu, Hilal went on the lesson and she gave the activity sheets. She wrote the correct answers on the board and she divided the board into two parts. It was also good because students weren’t confused about the correct answers, and they could correct themselves. Teachers gave explanations before each activity. Students participated willingly.
